Position: CNC Programmer

City: Turlock, CA

Range of Pay: $30.00 - $35.00 DOE

Shift: 1st Shift

Type: Temp-to-Hire

Job Summary:

The Programmer is responsible for developing, optimizing, and maintaining CNC and QC programs for machining complex parts while ensuring product quality, dimensional accuracy, and compliance with engineering specifications using advanced metrology techniques. This role requires an expertise in CNC / QC programming, tooling, and machining processes. The Programmer will be responsible for translating engineering drawings into efficient CNC / QC programs, optimizing machining operations, and ensuring compliance with ISO 9001:2015 quality standards.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Programming:
  • Develop and write programs for various machining operations, including milling, turning, multi-axis machining and QC Equipment
  • Utilize CAD/CAM software (Camworks, Mastercam, SolidWorks, AutoCAD, Hawkridge) to create 2D/3D models, tool paths, and simulations.
  • Optimize CNC programs to improve cycle times, tool life, and surface finish while maintaining tight tolerances.
  • Program and operate SmartScope & Walter Helicheck measuring systems for precision inspection of cutting tools, reamers, end mills, and machined parts.
  • Optimize CNC programs to improve cycle times, tool life, and surface finish while ensuring compliance with ISO 9001:2015 standards.
  • Tooling and Setup Design:
  • Select appropriate cutting tools, fixtures, and work holding solutions for specific jobs.
  • Design custom tooling and fixtures as needed to support complex machining operations.
  • Create detailed setup sheets and work instructions for machinists and operators.
  • Process Development and Improvement:
  • Analyze and improve existing machining processes to enhance efficiency, reduce scrap, and minimize downtime.
  • Implement best practices and standardize procedures across similar jobs and machine setups.
  • Collaborate with operations teams to develop new processes and techniques.
  • Quality Assurance and Troubleshooting:
  • Work closely with quality control to ensure that CNC programs produce parts that meet or exceed quality standards.
  • Ensuring product quality, dimensional accuracy, and compliance with drawings and prints.
  • Troubleshoot and resolve issues related to programming, tooling, or machine performance.
  • Make adjustments to programs and setups as needed based on feedback from the shop floor.
  • Documentation and Record Keeping:
  • Maintain detailed records of CNC / QC programs, tooling lists, and setup sheets.
  • Document process changes and improvements for future reference and training purposes.
  • Ensure all documentation complies with company and industry standards.
  • Training and Mentoring:
  • Provide training and guidance to operators and machinists on new programs, tooling, and best practices.
  • Share knowledge of advanced programming techniques and machining strategies with the team.

Qualifications:
  • Education: Associate’s degree or technical certification in CNC / QC programming, machining, mechanical engineering, or manufacturing technology (preferred).
  • Experience: 5+ years of experience in CNC programming and machining, with a strong understanding of multi-axis programming and complex machining operations and QC

Skills:
  • Proficient in CAD/CAM software (e.g., Cam works, Mastercam, SolidWorks, AutoCAD, Hawkridge).
  • Advanced knowledge of CNC programming languages (e.g., G-code, M-code).
  • Proficient in SmartScope multi-sensor measurement system.
  • Proficient in Walter Helicheck optical measuring system.
  • Strong understanding of materials, cutting tools, and machining principles.
  • Excellent problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
  • Effective communication and teamwork abilities.

Physical Requirements:
  • Ability to work in a manufacturing environment with exposure to machinery noise and metal shavings.
  • Ability to sit or stand for extended periods.
